Medici Chapels
Dome, Altar and Chapel
_______________________________________________________________________

Dome
The dome of the Medici Chapels soars overhead, a masterpiece of geometric precision. Its octagonal form stretches skyward, ribbed with golden stone that catches the light filtering through massive windows. Each section, a canvas for vibrant frescoes, unfolds in a narrative ballet. Here, muscular figures in celestial hues wrestle with divine purpose, their forms echoing the dome's perfect curves. Atop the apex, a lantern bathed in golden light crowns the space, casting a reverent hush over the scene below.
Altar
Polished brass candlesticks flank the altar, their reflective surfaces catching slivers of colored light from the stained glass above. A worn crimson cloth drapes the central table, its edges pooling gently onto the geometric marquetry below. In the flickering light, the intricate patterns of jasper, agate, and lapis lazuli seem to breathe, an echo of the lifeblood that once flowed through the veins of those here commemorated. A bronze crucifix, its form both elegant and severe, presides over the scene, its outstretched arms reaching towards the vibrant mosaic dome overhead. Here, at the heart of the chapel, time seems to suspend, holding the weight of history and the promise of transcendence.
Chapel
Light, softened by stained glass high above, spills across an octagonal chamber that dwarfs everything within. Walls shimmer with an almost unnatural vibrancy – a tapestry woven from semi-precious stones, each shard catching the light and throwing flickers of color across the vast space.

Giant sarcophagi, like slumbering titans, line the perimeter, their polished surfaces reflecting the dizzying display of wealth. Gilded bronze figures, their expressions both stoic and serene, stand sentinel beside the tombs. The very silence seems to hum with a quiet power, a testament to the enduring legacy of the Medici.
